LOCAL ADVICE
Martinique is a French overseas department. You have access to the same services as in mainland France, such as postal services, currency, and language.
- Electricity: 220V.
- Telephone: Check your provider's conditions to avoid exceeding your plan as many subscriptions include the DOM-TOM (overseas territories) without extra charges.
- Groceries: Island life is more expensive than in mainland France. Favor markets and buying from local fishermen. Fresh fish is exceptional, as well as smoked chicken, bananas, avocados, mangoes. Boost your vitamins and the locals will be happy to share recipes for cooking on a griddle or in the oven upon your return from the beach.
